Welcome the Fawn Dress

The fawn dress is inspired by my wintry home in Minnesota. As a family we gather around the fireplace in the living room every evening to take a little break before dinner. As we gather together around the fire to talk and laugh the deer do the same right outside the window. I love to watch the timid little fawns step out from the tree line into the open snow covered yard.

Cyber Monday Pick

Who doesn't love a campfire with s'mores? As the temperature in MN drops for my niece and nephew, they are forced to move all their activities inside. This fun set may just help bring back those fun summer nights!

Isla Coat

I finished A's coat. It turned out perfectly. I think she is going to love it or at least I hope she does. I have added it to my shop as well so your favorite little girl can have one too! I also expanded the available sizes : 1T-12. But if you really want one for yourself we can talk about it. Mr. R thinks I should make a matching one for Grandma.

The cut of this little coat is perfect. It swings and sways with every movement. The fabric is from the Amy Butler line Love. It is reversible so depending on the little ladies mood she can wear it either way.

I have plans to do more coats in the future. I have sketches for a cute stripped navy blue one with big red buttons. Can't wait to get sewing!

Fall

This is my second fall in California since moving from Minnesota and I miss it. The smell of the air. The sound of the leaves rustling under your feet. The brightly colored sugar maples. The tip of your nose being ice cold from the crisp air. I miss all these things and many, many more. As hard as I try I just can't replicate the fall feeling out here in California. I have tried eating apples. I have tried busting out my favorite cozy sweater. I have tried drinking a pumpkin spice latte. Nothing has worked. I can't get in the mood! Any suggestions? What makes you get that fall feeling? I will try just about anything at this point.

Ps. Don't feel too sorry for me. I did just get back from a walk on the beach with Finn in shorts and a t-shirt.

WIP

I finally got the fabric for A's coat. I think it is going to be terrific! I hope she thinks so too. The fabric is from the new Amy Butler line Love. It is a great new line. The colors aren't quite pastel but they are the verge of pastel. This collection does a wonderful job of combining whimsical patterns with more structured patterns. Enabling you to mix and match for a very well balanced piece. I can't wait to get cutting!

The Fortunate Ones

As I approach the holiday season I start thinking about how I am going to give back this year. Then I remembered a blog I saw earlier this year, Crafting Hope. Ever since finding it I have been toying with the idea of starting a similar movement. The idea behind the movement is to donate handmade goods to those in need. What better way to show your love then by sharing something you made? So today I'm jumpimg off the cliff and starting the search for a children's homes. To see how my search is going or to get involved checkout my new blog, sew much love.

WIP - Wednesday

I have been feverishly working on some new booties. I designed a new retro Mary Jane style bootie. I am loving the thick red strap. Every little girl or woman, for that matter, needs a great pair of red shoes!

52 Days!

Can you believe there are only 52 days left till Christmas? I think someone might be getting these great felted bowls from Shkolnik under the tree this year. They remind me of walking on the shore of Lake Superior on a beautiful, crystal, clear day.

Work In Progress

This weeks WIP (Work In Progress) is for my favorite little girl, but don't worry. I am also going to have it available in my Etsy shop so you can have your very own and I am even extending the available sizes! I choose to make this coat for Annika because it reflects her adventurous, fun loving personality. Not to mentions it is just super duper CUTE!

(photo via Whole Grain Baby)

The pattern is by another extremely talented Etsy seller, Whole Grain Baby. I just can not get enough of her designs. She also did the pattern for this dress and this dress in my shop. I am excited to get moving on this coat. I will be hitting the fabric shop tomorrow. I am thinking blues, greens, and pinks.

What inspires you?

Lately I have been doing a lot of thinking about how I get inspired. At first I thought it was travel, people, and wine. Then as I really started to think about it, what really gets my creative juices flowing or should I say gushing is ...... A CLEAN DESK!

I am not one of those clean freak type, who really enjoys cleaning and the smell of pine sol. Mark can attest to that. No, I am talking more about a blank slate. A place just begging to be cluttered with all of your creations and ideas. The desk, it is calling to you, "come sit at me create something new and exciting."

Keiki Booties

I finished the booties that go with the Keiki Dress. I LOVE them. I like this pattern for booties much more than the kimono bootie pattern. This pattern came from On Pins and Needles.

On another note ... I am sooooo excited because I am leaving for Italy tomorrow. I hope to get lots of ideas for more future projects. I love European kids clothes. They also seam so much more sophisticated. I will be back in a couple of weeks with photos to share.

Lets Make A Deal

I am super excited about my next project. I was able to workout a little exchange with a good friend of mine. It is going to be soooo perfect. For one she is a really gifted photographer and two she has the most adorable, picture perfect kids.

So the deal is I am going to make them each a dress and Michelle is going to photograph them. I can't wait. I am off the buy fabric.

The Keiki Dress

I finally finished another project. This adorable little dress is for an even more adorable little girl, my niece Kaitlyn in Colorado.

I got the pattern from Whole Grain Baby. They have a bunch of cute patterns. I hope to do another one in the near future.

The name comes from Hawaiian for child. I thought the print was very Hawaiian looking. I love this Amy Butler fabric and I have a ton left over. Any ideas of what to do with the rest?
